Help me raise funds for the Greenpeace Amazon Challenge - and get me out of the country for a bit! I need to raise $3000 to donate to Greenpeace to get me on the Challenge. It's going to be an amazing experience, and it's an amazing cause. Help protect the rain forests! Come on, let's do it!
Oh, and as bribery, if I meet my target prior to July, I'll upload the video of me performing as Big Bird!
The Amazon is a vast and majestic rainforest teeming with an estimated quarter of all known land species. The jaguar, the pink river dolphin, the sloth, the world's largest flower, a monkey the size of a toothbrush and a spider the size of a baseball are just a few of the species that we know about - there are many more yet to be discovered.
It is also home to over 20 million people including hundreds of indigenous peoples, some of which have never been contacted by the ‘outside world’.
And finally, the Amazon stores 80 to 120 billion tonnes of carbon, helping to stabilise the planet's climate.
However, lack of governance and amnesty allow large-scale Amazon deforestation to continue.
So I'm on board the Greenpeace Amazon Jungle Challenge 2013. In October, myself and some fellow adventurers will be undertaking a trek in the Amazon to learn, see and raise funds. By participating I'll be supporting the work of Greenpeace to stop illegal and destructive logging, end the clearing of ancient forests and help protect our climate.
In order to take part in the mission, I will pay for my own travel costs, and also raise a minimum of $3000 to go directly to Greenpeace Australia Pacific's forest campaign.
